Dear Karuna Lady,
Well, it's tough to sit and write this without getting really teary and emotional as I think of our relationship, our fun, your beautiful laugh and smile and how much you have brought into my life to be one of complete joy, happiness, wonder and pride in you! You are the light of my life and the world.
In these 21 months since you were born, I have loved the time we have gotten to share. During the first three months of your life, you became a champion breastfeeder, smiled at 4 weeks when we were with Dr. Katherine at UCSF Mt. Zion, you smiled right at me! It made me feel that you knew in your heart that I would do anything for you, to support your growth and your development. Thanks for recognizing that, love bug, as it is the truth. I could not love anyone or anything more than what I feel for you. I hope in our relationship together, you learn that the kind of love we share is what all human beings crave and deserve and that in your life you share this love with everyone you possibly can, being a source of light, nurturance, reassurance and safety for others.
At two months old, we took you on a plane for the first time to Auntie Son and Uncle Nik's wedding in Pennsylvania. Everyone loved seeing your cute little self, you smiled away, and partied like a rock star with all of us. I was happy you were a natural traveler, as I think we are going to travel the world together, all of us, and learn tons of languages, and appreciate the wonders of the world, and the greatness that life is, together.
At three months old, we took you to Stinson for the first time to celebrate Mommy and Daddy's First Anniversary - boy did we move fast in creating you! We were all ready to be together, and so it is :) ! We recorded an amazing video of you full on belly laughing at Daddy's jokes. What a sweet sweet time! Your laughing made us see your sense of humor and comedic tendencies, even at such a small age.
You are making us laugh everyday now, with silly jokes and just at the sight of something that tickles you. Never lose that laughter and the wanting to make people smile. It is the most important part of life and keeps you young.
The next couple of months were full of milestones: at five months, starting with Maria and Jay Jay in a nanny share, starting on solid foods, sitting up more, becoming more independent!
You nursed til 9 months old and then we started using a little bit of formula. You really took to sweet potatoes and all kinds of purees. You've always been a GREAT eater which we feel very grateful for.
You started crawling at 7 months and said your first word, "Agua," at 9 months! You are a REAL TALKER, Runi. Your verbal prowess is impressive, babycakes. We credit your love of books for that. You ADORE books, which makes us so happy and proud. May you always adore stories and reading and recite your favorites like you already do.
Your memory is astounding. It makes me think you will be a doctor or another profession where you get to memorize a lot of information and really use it to help others. I think you could also do something with public speaking because of your ability to remember and make connections between ideas. We used to say you'd be the Mayor when you were sitting at the window on our 1655 Mission apartment, looking out, surveying the city perched atop your Bumbo chair. Aaahh! There was something about that image that spoke so loudly and truthfully of your soul. Your ear for sounds is also extremely sharp, so we have thought that music will be something you do very well at. And of course with Soccer Tots, your illustrious soccer career has already begun, and if Dad has his way, you'll be a World Cup soccer player. We shall see what happens, Runi! You, of course, will be whatever brings you joy, purpose, happiness and fulfillment and Dad and I are here to fully support you in your hearts' desires.
At this point I will be blogging for you every month, to note down new developments, experiences, learnings and noticings from you and about you, to share with you your whole life.
I'm your Mom so I'm biased, and even from an objective place, I honestly am blessed that you came to us, sweet K, and am soooo proud of the person you are, who you are becoming each day, and all the promise your life holds to provide love, light, laughter and meaning to the world and others living in it.
Think big, believe in yourself always, and go for your dreams! We are right here for you, always, no matter what.
All The Love in the Universe,
Your Mama, Kiran
